NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A strong showing from
Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) and
Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) led the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team past Assumption in today's doubleheader. The Owls took the games by scores of 6-4 and 7-1.

KEY PERFORMERS
-Palmer batted 4-for-8, recording one RBI and one run.
-Criscuolo went 4-for-7, scored three runs and tallied one RBI.

Samuel Nepiarsky (Orange, Conn.) pitched 6.0 innings, tallied four strikeouts and allowed one run in the game two win.
GAME 1
- Southern came out swinging, scoring three runs in the first to take the lead, 3-0. Criscuolo reached on an error that allowed
Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) to score, 1-0.
Robert Schryver (Ansonia, Conn.) hit a RBI single to bring in
Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) and double the Owls lead. Schryver was caught stealing, but
Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) scored to complete the Owls three-run inning. The Greyhounds scored three in the top of the second to tie the game.
- After a scoreless third inning, the Owls broke the tie and scored two in the fourth to make it 5-3. Vincente Mendoza (Norwood, Mass.) singled up the middle to bring in Redahan and give the Owls a 4-3 lead. Palmer hit a single to score Mendoza and make it 5-3. SCSU added one more run in the fifth, giving them a 6-3 lead.
- The Greyhounds scored one in the ninth but the rally stopped there as the Owls took game one 6-4 of the doubleheader.
GAME 2
- Neither team was able to get on the board in the first four innings until Southern broke the deadlock in the fifth, scoring four runs. Lamberti hit a RBI double to score Palmer and
Griffin Garabedian (Hamden, Conn.) giving the Owls a two-run lead. Joyce then bunted to advance Criscuolo to second and bring Lamberti home to make it 3-0. A double steal from Redahan and Criscuolo saw the Owls extend their lead by four.
- Assumption answered in the fifth with one run. However, a three-RBI double from
John Spoto (Stamford, Conn.) gave the Owls a six-run cushion and eventually gave the Owls the 7-1 victory.

The Owls will host cross-town rival University of New Haven on March 28, with the game set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
