The softball squad honored their seniors today at Pelz Field.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball squad honored its four-member senior class at Pelz Field today before splitting a pair of matches with American International College, 5-1 and 4-3.

GAME ONE
KEY PERFORMERS
Heather Jackson—2-for-3 with two runs scored
Lauryn Zubia—3-for-3 with two runs scored
Jordan McHale—2-for-3 with three RBI
Victoria Ceballos—1-for-2 with two RBI
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Jordan McHale (Johnston, R.I.) opened the scoring in the second inning after she singled to left field and scored senior Heather Jackson (Saunderstown, R.I.). Victoria Ceballos took her turn at the plate and blasted a RBI triple that scored freshman Lauryn Zubia (San Fernando, Calif.), 2-0 Owls.
 
- AIC added a run in the third inning before the Owls counterattacked. McHale struck again in the sixth inning after her single to right center scored senior BryAnna McIntosh (Cheshire, Conn.). Jackson scored after Ceballos was hit by a pitch to give the Owls a 4-1 lead. Zubia scored on a tag up a few plays later to close out the Owls scoring.
 
- Ceballos' second inning triple proved to be the difference maker in making the Owls victorious. Freshman Jazmyn Martinez (Middletown, N.Y.) dazzled in the circle with seven strikeouts and gave up five hits.

KEY PERFORMERS
Jaime Conklin—1-for-2 with one RBI
Sara Buscetto—two runs scored
 
HOW HAPPENED
- McHale got the Owls on the board in the second inning of game two as she scored on a passed ball. McIntosh drove in Buscetto to put Southern up by two in the third inning.
 
- AIC attacked in the fourth inning after they scored on a double to right center. The Yellow Jackets added two more runs in the fifth inning to give them a 3-2 lead.
 
- Jaime Conklin (Falls Village, Conn.) singled in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Buscetto to tie the game, but AIC would score in the eighth inning for the eventual game-winner.
