NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University baseball head coach Tim Shea has announced the Owls' captains for the upcoming 2020 season. Seniors Nolan Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.), Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.), Brendan Ebert (Berlin, Conn.) and John Spoto (Stamford, Conn.) will lead the Owls this year.

Cloutier reached career highs in most categories and was named the NE10 Baseball Elite 24 recipient, which is given to the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average among those participating at its sports' championship weekend. Cloutier reached career-bests in hits (39), doubles (12), RBI (19) and walks (13) while also stealing 11 bases. Cloutier also connected for his first career home run in dramatic fashion – to give the Owls a 3-0 lead in a first round upset of NE10 tournament top-seed Adelphi.

DeMartino also threw-out 15 base runners. DeMartino ranked third in the NE10 and 21st nationally in doubles as well as third and 15th, respectively, in doubles per game.

Ebert appeared in seven games last season for the Owls, bringing his career total to 29 in three seasons. The fourth-year Owl has logged 109 1/3 innings on the hill for his career. As a freshman, he was 5-3 with a 3.60 ERA over a career-high 55 innings with one save. He also posted a six-game hitting streak in which the Owls were 4-2 and also connected for his first career home run in a 10-6 win against Le Moyne.

Spoto started  47 games and reached career-bests in runs scored (19), at-bats (165), hits (32), doubles (8), RBI (24) and walks (17) while also stealing seven bases. He also posted a six-game hitting streak in which the Owls were 4-2 and also connected for his first career home run in a 10-6 win against Le Moyne.
