The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for four non-conference games in three days at The Ripken Experience. The Owls face Dominican on Friday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m., followed by a split doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 23 against Molloy at 2 p.m. and Mercy at 5 p.m. The Owls wrap-up their trip against Wilmington on Sunday, Feb. 24.

THE RIPKEN EXPERIENCE
The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach is a one-of-a-kind  complex consisting  of 4 regulation-sized diamonds and 5 youth diamonds, all designed after historic ballparks like Griffith Field, Navin Field, and The Polo Grounds. A sign at each field explains the historical significance and impact of the Major League field that it's modeled after. Each of these 9 fields features a popular synthetic playing surface that professional and collegiate teams use worldwide. Benefits of using this kind of surface include consistent play, elimination of rain-outs, and a reduction in the risk of injuries.

THEIR LAST TIME OUT
Southern is coming off an opening weekend that saw the Owls post a 1-3 record in two games against Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida National, each. Southern opened the season with a 6-1 loss to PBA before splitting a doubleheader against FNU. The Owls completed their trip with a loss to PBA.

NICK LAMBERTI NAMED NCBWA HITTER OF THE WEEK
Senior Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) was named the East Region National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter of the Week in the organization's first awards of the season.
  • In the Owls' first action of the season, Lamberti batted .533 (8-15) while he also hit safely in all four games on the Owls' trip down South. Lamberti had a pair of home runs to go along with seven RBI in four games.
  • Against Florida National in a Saturday doubleheader, Lamberti was 5-for-5 in the first game with a home run and five RBI as he became the first Owl since 2017 to record five hits in a game. He followed with a hit in the second game of the doubleheader.
  • He also recorded two outfield assists, including a run-saving throw to the plate against Florida National, and also had three walks and a stolen base for the weekend.

NICK LAMBERTI & TYLER CRISCUOLO LAND ON NE10 HONOR ROLL
In addition to Lamberti's award from the NCBWA, he also landed on the Northeast 10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll with teammate Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.).
  • Criscuolo had a monster week as well for the Owls as he batted a team-leading .538 (7-13) in three games with two home runs and six RBI as well as two doubles.
  • His biggest game of the week featured a two-homer outing as part of a 4-for-6 day against Florida National in which he also drove in four runs and scored four more while adding a double.
  • It was the first multi-homer game for an Owl since 2010.

BIG MAC
Senior Mac Finnegan () also put together a solid week in West Palm Beach, hitting .375 (6-16) while hitting safely in the Owls last three games for the weekend. Finnegan had a 3-for-5 outing with three RBI against FNU and concluded the week with a 2-for-4 day against PBA.

THE LONG BALL
The Owls have already matched their 2018 total in home runs with six through their first four games. Criscuolo and Lamberti are tied for the team lead with two, while Cameron O'Toole (Grafton, Mass.) and Eric Ross (Montville, Conn.) also connected for their first career home runs. For Ross, it was the freshman's first career hit as well.
