It will be a busy day of travel for the SCSU baseball team on Thursday, Mar. 14 when it faces Caldwell College at 10:30 a.m. at the Santaluces Athletic Complex in Lantana, Fla. before heading to Boca Raton, Fla. to face Lynn University at 3 p.m.

THEIR LAST TIME OUT
  • The Owls face Caldwell with the hopes of spelling a three-game skid. In their most recent outing, the Owls dropped an 8-1 decision against St. Thomas University on Wednesday, Mar. 13.
  • Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) was 1-for-4 with RBI while Anthony Zambito (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored the Owls' only run.
  • Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.), John Spoto (Stamford, Conn.), Trevor Whalen (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) also had hits for the Owls.
  • Redahan's RBI single in the third inning gives him a team-best 13-game hitting streak, tied for the longest since Kyle Hart in 2017.
  • Spoto has now hit in four-straight games while Lamberti has reached base safely in six-consecutive games.
  • Zambito's run scored was his team-leading 16th of the season.

NE10 HONOR ROLL
  • Cloutier and senior Ronnie Rossomando (Stratford, Conn.) were named to the Northeast 10 Conference Baseball Weekly Honor Roll, as announced on Monday, Mar. 12, 2019.
  • During the Owls' weekend series against Concordia and Queens, Cloutier hit a team-best .667 (8-12) while also leading the Owls with four doubles and six runs scored in a 2-1 weekend against Concordia and Queens. Cloutier opened the weekend with a 2-for-3 day with a double, RBI and runs scored in a loss to Concordia on Friday. On Saturday, Cloutier was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in a 4-0 win against Concordia before closing the weekend with a 4-for-5 day with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored in a 15-12 win against Queens. Cloutier also boosted his batting average from .400 to .486 and has multiple hits in seven of his last eight games.
  • First-year Owl Rossomando, a transfer from NCAA Division I UConn, picked up his first victory as an Owl with a complete game shutout against Concordia. Rossomando spun nine strong innings, scattering six hits while striking out eight. It was the first career complete game and shutout of his collegiate career and also a career-best strikeouts.

TRENDS
  • Through Monday's game, Nolan Cloutier now has eight multiple-hit games in his last 10 games played and checks in at .455 (20-44) for the year.
  • Brandon Rentas' outing against Florida National was his longest start of the season, and arguable his most successful after holding the Conquistadors to one run on two hits over six innings while striking out three. He has now posted back-to-back starts with three-or-fewer runs allowed.
  • With a home run against Queens and Merrimack, DeMartino was the second Owls this season to homer in back-to-back games this season after Lamberti did it against Florida National on Feb. 16 and Palm Beach Atlantic on Feb. 17.
  • Finnegan is also tied with Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) for the team lead with four multiple-RBI games.
  • Mike Ferrett's collegiate career is off to a great start as the freshman reliever has yet to give up a run in 7 1/3 innings pitched across three appearances. His four-inning outing against Merrimack, in which he hurled four shutout innings with two strikeouts, was his longest of the season.
