The Southern Connecticut softball squad will play eight games in six days beginning with one set on the road before returning home for a six-game home stand. On Tuesday, April 9 the Owls will head to the island to face the leader of the Southwest division, Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. before returning home on Thursday, April 11 to face Post University in non-conference action.
 
Adelphi's Emily Whitman, who went 3-for-8 with three RBI and three runs scored in the last meetings with the Owls, leads the Panthers in hits (41), runs (30), doubles (9) and triples (6). The Owls are powered by freshman Alexa Bacoulis, who leads the team in batting average (.379) and doubles (6), and junior Sara Buscetto, who leads the team in hits (33), runs (17), triples (2) and stolen bases (18).
 
 
ALL-TIME VS. ADELPHI
  • The Panthers lead the all-time series with the Owls, 27-15.
  • Southern Connecticut and Adelphi squared off last week on April 3 in New Haven where the Panthers swept the Owls, 5-1 and 6-3 in conference play.
 
ALL-TIME VS. POST
  • The Owls lead the all-time series against the Eagles, 4-3.
  • Southern Connecticut and Post last met in 2006, where the two teams split a pair of games, a 3-2 win for the Eagles and a 2-1 win for the Owls.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Coming off a two-game sweep of Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 6, the Owls dropped two games to Saint Anselm, 4-1 and 8-0 in Manchester, N.H. on April 7.
  • Game one was Jazmyn Martinez's ninth complete game pitched this season, surpassing her freshman year season total, where she pitched five games of seven-or-more innings.
 
IN THE NE10
  • Sara Buscetto is second in stolen bases in the NE10, with 18 on the year. She is also tied for fourth­ in hits in the NE10 with 33 and tied for 11th in runs with 17.
  • Freshman Jacqueline Dumont ranks sixth in the Northeast 10 in RBI with 18 and tied for sixth in home runs with 3.
  • Jazmyn Martinez is tied for sixth in the NE10 in complete games pitched with nine and is ninth in innings pitched with 75 in total.
 
CLIMBING THE RANKINGS
  • After completing just 13 steals through 42 games last year, junior Sara Buscetto has tallied 18 through 30 games this season and is tied for fourth place all-time in SCSU history for single season stolen bases with Sarah Koerner, who had 18 in 2014.

Madison Feshler (Middletown, Conn.) and junior Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) have been chosen to lead the 2019 softball squad, as announced by head coach Jillian Rispoli.
 
IN THE NE10 PRESEASON RANKINGS
The Southern Connecticut State University softball team has been selected to finish fifth in the Southwest Division of the NE10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
