The Southern Connecticut State University football team will travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on Pace University in a non-conference match up for Week 2 of the regular season. Both teams will be in the hunt for their first win of the 2019 season after Southern opened with a 14-7 loss to Gannon last week while Pace dropped a 21-20 decision to Millersville.

  • Friday night's game between SCSU and Pace will be the 26th meeting all-time.
  • The Owls own a 23-2 record all-time against the Setters, including wins in the first 20 meetings before Pace picked up a 10-7 win in their second meeting of the 2014 season.
  • Pace won the last meeting between the two teams last season when the Setters took a 14-7 victory on their home turf on Oct. 27, 2018.

THE OWLS' LAST TIME OUT
  • Southern saw a late comeback fall short in a 14-7 loss to Gannon in the Owls' season-opener at Jess Dow Field on Thursday, Sept. 5.
  • Redshirt freshman Jonmichael Bivona (Stamford, Conn.) rushed for a game-high 86 yards on 19 carries for a 4.5 yard-per-carry average. Bivona also had a team-best run of 21 yards in the fourth quarter.
  • Sophomore Izaiah Sanders (Stamford, Conn.) led all receivers with 93 yards on seven receptions, catching almost half of quarterback Matt Sanzaro's (Wethersfield, Conn.) completed passes.
  • Sanzaro was 16-for-36 for 156 yards with another 39 yards on the ground including a 1-yard scamper for the Owls lone touchdown of the day. 
  • Southern's elite defense dominated play as the Owls held Gannon to less than 200 yards (198) for the day. 
  • Bivona paced the Owls' offense as he garnered a majority of the carries as Southern racked up 166 yards on the ground.
  • Kevin Momnohin (Orange, N.J.) rushed for 49 yards on 13 carries for a 3.8 per-yard clip. 
  • Defensively, JayChar Howell (Yonkers, N.Y.) had a team-leading nine tackles, including seven solo tackdowns as well as one pass break-up. 
  • Rich Souffrant (Stratford, Conn.) had six tackles, including two for a loss with 1 1/2 sacks for a net loss of 20 yards for the game. He also recorded one pass break-up.
  • Souffrant is currently tied for the NE10 lead in sacks.
