Southern Connecticut State University football's non-conference matchup at NCAA Division I Bryant on Saturday, Oct. 8 will be streamed live on ESPN+ at 1 p.m. The Owls enter the matchup against their former Northeast 10 Conference foe at 0-5 through the first half of the season as they take on the 1-4 Bulldogs.
 
All-Time Against the Bulldogs
  • Southern and Bryant have faced each other 10 times in their programs' histories, but will face-off for the first time since 2009.
  • From 2001 through 2007, the Owls were 5-2 against the Bulldogs, before Bryant moved up to the Division I ranks. Southern holds the advantage in the all-time series, 6-4.  
Owls Notes
  • Owls receiver Tylon Papallo currently leads the NE10 in receiving yards (340), yards per game (68.0) and yards per reception (14.8).
  • Papallo also ranks fourth with 23 catches and has scored two touchdowns for the year.
  • Owls running back Diante Wilson ranks second in the conference with 76 carries while his 307 yards rank fourth in the conference. Wilson is also averaging 61.4 yards per game and 4.0 yards per carry with two touchdowns.
  • Wilson and Papallo are tied for sixth in the NE10 in all-purpose yards (398) and yards per game at 79.6
  • Shawn Martin's 399 return yards rank third in the NE10 while his 22.2 yards per return ranks fifth.
  • Jordan Davis has totaled 14 carries for 108 yards for a 7.7 yard carry and two touchdowns. Davis' 71-yard touchdown run against Pace is the second-longest run this season in the conference.
  • On defense, Robert Nunez is second in the conference with 42 tackles while Hasan Dominick sits in seventh place with 34.
  • Nunez is averaging 8.4 tackles per game, good for second in the conference.
  • Richard Williams, Jr. ranks fifth in the NE10 with 20 solo tackles with Joe Digello sitting right behind Williams with 19 solo takedowns. Digello also leads Southern with two sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss.
  • Ben Eichman is the conference's lone defensive player to force two fumbles and also record two interceptions for the year.
  • Eichman and Ja'Kai Young are tied for third in the conference with two interceptions, each.
  • In addition to Eichman and Young, Owls' defensemen Matt Ansell, Navaughn Austin and Joe Digello have also recorded an interception this year, making Southern the only team in the conference to feature five different players with an interception to date.
Scouting the Bryant Bulldogs
  • Bryant enters the weekend with a record of 1-4 and are coming off a 24-13 loss at North Carolina A&T last weekend.
  • The Bulldogs' backfield features a pair of rushers to total seven touchdowns to date. Ishod Byarm has totaled 185 yards on 45 carries with three touchdowns while Ryan Clark has 31 carries for 143 yards and four touchdowns.
  • Under center, Zach Echhaus is 102-for-168 for 1,243 yards with seven touchdown passes against seven interceptions and is averaging 248.6 yards per game.
  • Landon Ruggieri leads the Bulldogs' receiving corps with 28 catches for 382 yards but has yet to find the touchdown. Anthony Frederick, Jihad Edmond and AC White have all caught two touchdown passes.
  • On defense, Joe Andreessen leads the team with 59 tackles, including a FCS-leading 11.8 per game, and also leads the team with two interceptions and four pass breakups.
  • Ryan Saddler has totaled 47 tackles to date while Kenny Dyson leads the team with 3.5 sacks.
