Southern Connecticut football opens Northeast 10 Conference play at home against Pace on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. The Owls enter the game with a record of 0-2 on the season while Pace stands at 1-1.

ALL-TIME AGAINST PACE
Friday night's game will be the 29th meeting all-time between the two teams, with the Owls holding a 23-5 advantage in the series. Pace has won four-straight games in the series.
 
DIGELLO NAMED NE10 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  • Joe DiGello (Orange, Conn.) was named the Northeast 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the NE10 on Monday, Sept. 12.
  • DiGello was all over the field against the No. 24 New Haven Chargers, totaling eight tackls (five solo) with a sack and an interception for a touchdown. DiGello tipped a pass at the line from UNH's Connor Degenhardt and then snagged the ball out of the air to return it for a 50-yard touchdown. The tally was the Owls' second of the day and gave Southern a 13-3 lead in the first half.
  • DiGello ranks seventh in the NE10 with 16 tackles at 8.0 per game while his 50-yard interception return is the longest of the season in the conference.
  • Owls running back Diante Wilson (Union, N.J.) was also named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll.
  • Wilson led the Owls with 20 carries for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns while also totaling four catches for 42 yards.
  • Both of Wilson's touchdowns came in the final 2:37 of regulation as the Owls mounted a comeback against their Elm City rival.   
SCOUTING THE OWLS
  • Diante Wilson leads the Owls backfield with 32 carries for 111 yards and two touchdowns, which lead the NE10.
  • Wilson also has six catches for 66 yards for the year with a touchdown.
  • Tylon Papallo is the Owls' top receiver with 10 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown.
  • Papallo ranks third in the NE10 with 74.5 receiving yards per game.
  • Marc Reali has started both of the Owls' games at quarterback but has split time with Joe Bernard. Reali is 19-for-40 for 248 yards and two touchdowns while Bernard is 17-for-30.
  • Robert Nunez leads Southern with 21 tackles through two games. His 10.5 tackles per game rank second in the NE10.
  • Digello's 16 tackles rank second, while his nine solo tackles lead the team. He also leads the team with one sack and has an interception returned for a touchdown.
  • Hasan Dominick has totaled 15 tackles for the year while newcomer Matt Ansell, a transfer from NCAA Division I Wagner, and Richard Williams have totaled eight tackles each. Ansell also forced one fumble, which he recovered, and has a breakup for the year.
  • On Special Teams, Shawn Martin has returned nine kicks for 173 yards for a 19.22 yard average with a long return of 40 yards through two games.
  • First-year Owl Andreas Picarelli has totaled 503 yards on 16 punts for a 31.44 yard average with a NE10 best of 55 yards. He's also forced seven fair catches.
  • Szymon Gawlick is 3-for-4 on extra point attempts for the season. 
SCOUTING THE SETTERS
  • Carlton Aiken returns under center for the Setters. Through two games, the senior quarterback is 26-for-54 for 458 yards and four touchdowns.
  • Aiken is also Pace's top rusher, totaling 123 yards on 25 carries over two games for a 61.5 yard-per-game average. Aiken also has one rushing touchdown.
  • 13 different players have registered a carry this season for the Setters, with the next four top rushers totaling 25 carries between them.
  • Teddy Harper has been the recipient of all four of Aiken's touchdowns and has totaled nine catches for 210 yards.
  • Cerrome Hill has seven catches for 120 yards for the year.
  • Ben Franchino is 3-for-4 on field goal attempts and 4-for-4 on extra-points.
  • Ramir Tann-Davis leads the team in all-purpose yards with 278 for a 139.0 per game average. Tann-Davis has totaled seven kick returns for 230 yards for a 32.9 yard average and also has five catches for 45 yards.
  • On defense, Evan Townsend-Henry leads the Setters with 11 tackles, including 3.5 for a loss and one sack.
  • Neimar Santouse has totaled 10 tackles while Anthony Holmes has nine tackles and a fumble recovery.
  • Pace opened the season with a 31-16 win at home against East Stroudsburg and lost to Bentley on the road last week, 41-20.
