Southern Connecticut football will host Assumption for a Northeast 10 Conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. Southern enters the game in search of its first win of the season at 0-4 overall including an 0-2 ledger in conference play. Assumption comes into New Haven with a record of 2-1 overall and 1-0 in NE10 action.

ALL-TIME AGAINST ASSUMPTION
  • Southern is 11-9 in 20 meetings all-time against Assumption.
  • Southern took the first 11 meetings between the two teams, but haven't beaten the Greyhounds since 2011. Assumption enters Saturday's game on a nine-game winning streak against SCSU.
  • Assumption took a 26-0 decision against the Owls in 2021.
  • In that game, First-year Owl Diante Wilson (Union, N.J.) totaled 87 yards on 11 carries, highlighted by a season-high 42 yard run in the second half. Wilson averaged a team-high 7.9 yards-per-carry for the day. The Owls accounted for 181 yards on the ground as T.J. Gardner also ran for 50 yards on 11 carries.
  • On defense, Hasan Dominick (Jersey City, N.J.) and Joe DiGello (Orange, Conn.) led the Owls with seven tackles each while Dominick also had a sack. 
  • Joel Kashila (Lynn, Mass.) had his first career interception in the game.
 
SCOUTING THE OWLS
  • Southern enters the weekend following a 21-14 loss to Saint Anselm last weekend.
  • The Owls defense was on display, as Southern intercepted four passes in the game, led by a pair from Ben Eichman (Merrimack, N.H.) while Ja'Kai Young (Stamford, Conn.) and Navaughn Austin (Bridgeport, Conn.) also had interceptions in the game.
  • The last time Southern Connecticut recorded four interceptions in a game was on Sept. 23, 2016 against American International.  
  • Joe Digello (Orange, Conn.) led the Owls' defense with eight tackles, as well as three quarterback hurries, while Hasan Dominick (Jersey City, N.J.) and Richard Williams, Jr. (Wethersfield, Conn.) both had seven tackles each.
  • Diante Wilson (Union, N.J.) led the Owls' offense with 152 yards on 24 carries while also recording four catches for 19 yards. 
  • Jordan Davis (Wallingford, Conn.) scored on a four-yard run in the second quarter for his second touchdown in as many games.
  • Jevon Jones (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored his first touchdown of the season on an 8-yard pass from Joe Bernard (Nashua, N.H.). Bernard through for 135 yards as part of a 17-for-30 afternoon.
  • For the year, Wilson is fourth in the NE10 in rushing yards (276) and yards per game (69.0) with two touchdowns.
  • Wilson has also recorded 10 receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown.
  • Tylon Pappalo is the Owls' leading receiver with 19 catches for 234 yards, which ranks fourth in the conference, with one touchdown.
  • On defense, Robert Nunez leads the Owls with 33 tackles, including 10 solo takedowns, which ranks second in the NE10.
  • Hasan Dominick is fourth in the conference with 30 tackles while Joe Digello ranks ninth with 26.
  • Digello is also third in the conference with 16 solo tackles.
  • Ben Eichman and Ja'Kai Young lead the NE10 with two interceptions each.
  • Eichman also leads the NE10 with two forced fumbles and ranks sixth in the conference with three pass breakups on the year
  • Young has one pass breakup on the year.
  • As a team, Southern ranks first with seven interceptions and is one of three teams in the conference with a defensive touchdown (Digello, 50-yard INT).
 SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
  • Assumption enters the weekend with a record of 2-1 following wins against Kutztown (3-0) and Pace (26-14) with a loss to Merrimack (17-45).
  • Under center, quarterback Jake Cady is 42-for-80 for 348 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
  • Cady has also rushed 42 times for 169 yards and a touchdown while Raekwon Washington has 26 carries for 90 yards in three games.
  • Baley Collier has a team-high eight catches for 89 yards while Connor Milks has a team-best 101 receiving yards.
