Joe DiGello Named D2Football.com National Defensive Player of the Week

Southern Connecticut State University standout Joe DiGello was named the D2Football.com National Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by D2Football.com on Tuesday, Oct. 3. DiGello was also named the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week. 

After a week hiatus due to injury, DiGello returned with a force in the Owls' 6-3 win at home against Saint Anselm. DiGello finished the day with 10 total tackles, six solo, two tackles for loss and two sacks for loss of 10 yards. He also forced a fumble and disrupted the passing game with three credited quarterback hurries. Digello and the Owl defense limited Saint Anselm to 211 total yards, with only 59 on the ground.

For the year, DiGello leads the NE10 and ranks among the NCAA Division II leaders with four saves in four games played. He also ranks 13th in the conference with 29 tackles, second in the conference with five tackles for a loss and leads the NE10 with two forced fumbles. He also ranks ninth in the conference with 19 solo tackles. 

Southern is back in action this weekend when it travels to Rindge, N.H. to take on Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
