SCSU Women's Track And Field Finishes Second At Northeast 10 Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's track team finished in second place in the Northeast 10 Indoor Championships on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023 at The TRACK at New Balance in Boston. Women's 151 points are the most since they totaled 156 in 2015.

After Kisha Francois won the Long Jump Championship on the first day of competition, the Owls added three more titles on the second-day of the event. Rachel Fleischer (Triple Jump), Ella Maclean (60 Dash, 200 dash) all led Southern. In addition to its four Gold Medals, the Owls also added three Silver and two Bronze.  

Rachel Fleischer successful defended her Triple Jump titled with a mark of 11.96. Fleischer is the first women's indoor triple jump champ at SCSU since 2009. In addition, she won an outdoor triple jump championship in 2021. Shayna Smith, won Silver in the event with a mark of 11.85.

Ella Maclean also captured the 60 meters and 200 meters with a time of 7.64 and 24.60, respectively. Maclean won silver in the 60 and 200 meter last year also she is first 200 meter champ at SCSU since 2012. The last SCSU women's track athlete to win two championships in the same indoor championship was Crystle Hill in 2016: 60 m, 500 m. Anna-Sashia Jones, won Silver in the 60 meters and bronze in the 200 meters.

Other medalists include Patrice Mansfield (60 Hurdles), Briana Grecco (1 mile), who won silver medals, while Avery Winters (400 meters) claimed Bronze Medal on the second day. 

Newbury (60 hurdles), Dardielle Exantus (60 meters), Hannah Caiola (400 meters), Julia Mansfield (800 run) and Avery Winters (200 meters) finished outside of the top three , but finished fourth to pick up five points for the Owls. Kisha Francois, also scored in the event. Francois finished fifth in the 200 meters. Bransford (60 meters), Newbury (400 meters), Grecco (800 run), finished in seventh place in each event. Hannah Caiola finished eighth to pick up a point for Southern.  

The 4x400 Relay team of Isabella Newbury, Anna-Sashia Jones, Avery Winters and Ella Maclean won Gold with a NE10 Championship Record time of 3:50.07
