Southern Connecticut baseball returns to action with a four-game weekend at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Owls will take on the College of Staten Island in the Dolphins season-opener on Friday, Feb. 24 before a doubleheader against Felician on Saturday, Feb. 25. The Owls face Post to close out the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 26 before traveling back to New Haven.
 
Their Last Time Out
Southern is coming off a season-opening split at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. The Owls lost the first game of the weekend, 10-2, before bouncing back with a 7-6 win in the second game of the series.
 
Owls Notes
  • Billy Sullivan earned Northeast 10 Conference Honor Roll recognition last week. In a season-opening series split at Lynn, Sullivan batted .429 (3-7) with two runs scored. He also posted a team-high .556 on-base percentage and .571 slugging for an OPS of 1.127.
  • Through two games, Jack Drewry and Connor Goggin lead the Owls with two RBI each while Sullivan and Jake Gruttadauria lead Southern with two runs scored, each.
  • Drewry was 3-for-8 last weekend while Goggin was 3-for-9.
  • Steve Phillips took a no-decision in the Owls win against Lynn. Phillips gave up two home runs in the game, but was solid throughout allowing just two other hits in the game.
  • Peter Phillips picked up the win after allowing two runs on four hits over two innings in relief while Tommy Hughes picked up his first save of the season and ninth of his career.
