SCSU Track & Field Features Five To Compete At NCAA Division II Indoor Championships On Mar. 10-11

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Southern Connecticut track & field's Cameron Belton (Baltic, Conn.) and the 4x400 Relay team comprised of Ella Maclean (Hanover, N.H.), Hannah Caiola (Glastonbury, Conn.), Avery Winters (Wallingford, Conn.) and Izzy Newbury (Moosup, Conn.) were announced as selections to compete in the 2022-23 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on Mar. 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Va. The competition will be hosted by Norfolk State at the Virgina Beach Sports Center.

Belton qualified for the national indoor championship with a mark of 17.53m (57'6.25") on Feb. 16 at the NE10 Championships, which stands as the 13^th best mark of the season in the country. Belton will travel to the national championship for the second consecutive year after qualifying in 2022, while he also qualified for the outdoor championship last season.

This year, he successfully defended his Northeast 10 Conference Indoor Shot Put Championship for his second title and also earned All-New England honors after finishing fourth at the NEICAAA Championships. Belton is also the only men's student-athlete from the NE10 to qualify for the NCAA Championships this season.

The Owl's women's indoor 4x400 Relay team of Maclean, Caiola, Winters and Newbury qualified this past weekend at the BU Last Chance Meet with a time of 3:46.46, which stands as the ninth-best time this season in the nation. This is the first qualification for the entire team, and the first indoor Owls' women indoor student-atheltes to qualify since Briana Burt and Destiny Coward in 2019. The Owls' 4x400 team also qualified in three-straight indoor championships, including a National Championship winning team in 2015.
