SCSU Men's Track & Field Announces Captains for 2025-2026 Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut Men's Track & Field Head Coach John Wallin has announced the team captains for the 2025-2026 Indoor and Outdoor seasons. Osaretin Osagie, Nolan Freeman, Ty Phelan, Nate Huebner, and Leo Jolly were all named captains.

Gabe Toppin, who passed away in December, was named an honorary captain.

Osaretin Osagie returns for his second season as captain after a dominant 2025 campaign. He was named Second Team All-American after running the third-fastest time in the 110m Hurdles in program history at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He was also named the NE10's Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2025 Outdoor Championships, taking home gold in the 400m Hurdles and 110m Hurdles. He also won the 110m Hurdles and the 4x400 at the 2025 New England Championships. He has captured six NE10 gold medals in his career. This year, he holds the second-fastest 60m Hurdles time in the conference and ranks 34th in Division II.

Nolan Freeman, the only other returning captain, is also coming off a great 2025 season. He took home six medals across last year's indoor and outdoor NE10 and New England Championships, earning All-Region honors in the 60m (indoor), 200m (indoor and outdoor), 4x100m Relay (outdoor), and 4x400m Relay (indoor).

Ty Phelan has shown off his versatility since being named captain this season. Last year, he took home Gold in the 4x400 and Silver in the DMR at the NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, earning All-Region honors. This year, he has moved to the pits, recording the fourth-best Long Jump and ninth-best Triple Jump in the conference.

Nate Huebner, also a member of SCSU Cross Country, will look to build off a great year. He placed second in the 4x800 and fifth in the mile at last year's indoor conference championships. He earned All-Conference and All-Region honors for the Cross Country team in the Fall, helping the Owls to their fifth NE10 title and third NCAA East Region title, clinching a berth in the National Championships. This season, he holds the third-fastest 1000m and the fourth-fastest Mile in the NE10.

Leo Jolly will help to lead Southern's throwers. He took home the NE10's Elite-24 Award last season, and has been a major part of the Owls' dominance in the Shot Put. He has already recorded a personal-best throw in the this season at 15.57m. That mark ranks second in the NE10 this season.

The Owls will look to defend their eight consecutive NE10 titles next week at the 2026 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, February 19th and Friday, February 20th.
