Former Owls Jeff Stoutland and Roy Istvan Headed To Super Bowl LVII

Former Southern Connecticut football alums Jeff Stoutland '84/'86 and Roy Istvan '89 are heading to Super Bowl LVII as members of the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff. Stoutland is the Eagles' run game coordinator and offensive line coach while Istvan is the assistant offensive line coach.

One of the most respected offensive line coaches in the country, Stoutland is in his 10th season with the Eagles and is the longest-tenured member of the Eagles' coaching staff. Stoutland, who boasts 39 years of coaching experience, has developed some of the league's most prolific offensive lines, tutoring Pro Bowl players during each of his first nine seasons in Philadelphia. In February, 2018, Stoutland helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Stoutland was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter for the Owls' football squad. Stoutland served as a team captain as a senior and collected Little All-America and All-New England laurels.

Stoutland played an integral role on squads that posted four straight winning seasons (first stretch in program history since 1959-62) and a 28-11-2 record during his collegiate career, including the 1982 squad that was ranked No. 9 in the nation. He also suited up for the baseball squad for one year and batted .314 for the Owls.

After graduation, Stoutland embarked on a highly successful coaching career. He served two different stints as an assistant coach at SCSU and has also coached collegiately at the University of Alabama, the University of Miami, Michigan State University, Cornell University and Syracuse University. Stoutland helped Alabama win two BCS National Championships and joined the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff in 2013.

With 33 years of coaching experience, Istvan is currently in his fifth season with the Eagles. Istvan's guidance with Philadelphia has produced five Pro Bowl appearances and three All-Pro honors as well as the top rushing offensive in the NFL in 2021.

Prior to joining the Eagles, Istvan served as the assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Keiser University in 2018. He previously served as the offensive coordinator at Cornell, Rhode Island and University of Buffalo, as well as Milford (N.Y.) Academy.

Istvan also served as the Owls' offensive coordinator from 1996-2000 after serving as a graduate assistant from 1990 through 1995. He previously coached with Stoutland from 1990-92 at Southern Connecticut after playing for Stoutland as a student athlete in 1989.
