Southern Connecticut baseball will head to Springfield, Mass. on Wednesday, Mar. 22 for a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at American International. Southern Connecticut opened its NE10 slate with a 12-2 win against Assumption on Tuesday, Mar. 21 and stands at 13-5 overall. AIC will play its first conference game of the season on Wednesday and is 5-8 on the year. 

2023 Matchup
Southern Connecticut and AIC played twice last week in Florida, with the Owls winning both non-conference games, 8-6 and 7-2. 

The Owls' Last Time Out
Southern rolled to a 12-2 win against Assumption on Tuesday, Mar. 21 at The Ballpark at SCSU to open its NE10 slate at 1-0 while improving to 13-5 on the year. Nick Guarino (New Haven, Conn.) was masterful over six innings on the mound, holding the Greyhounds to a single, unearned run, while giving up just three hits and striking out eight. At the plate, Andrew Eng (Ridgewood, N.J.) was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and three runs scored while Connor Goggin (Prospect, Conn.) was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run. Chad Fedeli (Monroe, Conn.) drove in a pair of runs while Derrick Jagello (Naugatuck, Conn.) was 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored.



Owls Notes
  • In a race to lay claim to the dominant bat in the middle of the Owls' lineup, Eng and Goggin are tied with four home runs each, while Eng leads the team with 24 RBI while Goggin has driven in 18 runs for the year. 
  • Goggin currently leads the team with a .379 (25-66) average while leading the team in hits (25), doubles (9), triples (1), slugging percentage (.727) and on-base percentage (.481) while drawing 11 walks. 
  • Eng is hitting .297 (19-64) with 19 runs scored, four home runs and five doubles while also leading the Owls with 19 walks and owns a .449 on-base percentage. 
  • Billy Sullivan is hitting .338 (23-68) with a team-best 20 runs scored. 
  • Mike Ferrett checks in with a .323 (21-65) average wtih two home runs, 13 RBi and 17 runs scored. Ferrett has reached base in 15 straight games to date. 
  • Colin Mason fills out the top of the Owls order with a .311 (19-61) average with 16 RBI and 14 runs scored. Mason is currently riding a team-best seven game hitting streak and has reached base in 14 straight games. 
  • Jack Drewry is hitting .296 (16-54) with 14 RBI while Derrick Jagello is 17-for-61 (.279) with 11 RBI and 14 runs scored. Drewry has reached base in nine-straight games. 
  • Zach Bedryczuk has scored 17 runs for the Owls and sits behind Goggin with eight doubles.
