Southern Connecticut baseball will host American International for a non-conference matchup at The Ballpark at SCSU on Wednesday, Mar. 28 at 3 p.m. The Owls enter the game with a record of 14-5 with wins in their last three games while AIC is currently 5-13 for the year.

2023 vs. AIC
Southern and AIC have met three times already this season, with Southern holding a 3-0 advantage. In their last meeting, Southern rolled to a 21-13 victory on Wednesday, Mar. 22. Southern and AIC also met twice while both teams were in Florida, with the Owls winning both games, 8-6 and 7-2.
 
NE10 Honor Roll
Nick Guarino and Billy Sullivan were both named to the NE10 Baseball Weekly Honor Roll this week.
  • Against Assumption, Guarino was masterful over six innings on the mound, holding the Greyhounds to a single unearned run, while giving up just three hits and striking out eight. After giving up a two-out single in the first inning, Guarino retired the next seven batters he faced before giving up a lead-off single in the fourth. He then sat down the next six batters he faced, three by strikeout.
  • Against Assumption to start the week, Sullivan was 0-for-3 with a walk but drove in a run and scored two more. He followed with a monster game against AIC in a 21-13 barn burner, going 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple and five RBI while also scoring four runs in the Owls' win. 
Owls Notes
  • Connor Goggin leads the Owls with a .394 average (28-71) while leading the team in hits (28) and doubles (9) as well as slugging percentage (.71*) and on-base percentage (.488). Goggin has totaled four home runs and 19 RBI while scoring 21 runs. He's also added five stolen bases for the year.
  • Billy Sullivan checks in at .378 (28-74), tied with Goggin for the team's hit lead (28) while also leading the Owls with 24 runs scored. Sullivan also tallied seven stolen bases while totaling six doubles and 17 RBI.
  • Mike Ferrett is hitting .343 (24-70) with two home runs, 16 RBI and 20 runs scored.
  • Colin Mason is also hitting .343 (23-67) with 20 RBI and 16 runs scored.
  • Derrick Jagello is hitting .308 (20-65) with 16 RBI and 14 runs scored and is second on the Owls' roster with 17 walks.
  • Jack Drewry is hitting at a .288 clip (17-59) with 14 RBI and 10 runs scored.
  • Andrew Eng is hitting .286 (20-70) while leading the Owls with five home runs and 27 RBI as well as 19 walks and 22 runs scored.
  • Zach Bedryczuk is second on the team with eight doubles while also scoring 20 runs and leads the team with 10 stolen bases.
  • On the mound, Nick Guarino leads the NE10 with five wins. For the year, he is 5-1 with a 2.78 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings pitched.
  • Tommy Benincaso is 3-0 with a 4.00 ERA.
  • Peter Phillips leads Southern with seven appearances and is 2-0 for the year with seven strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings pitched.
  • Tommy Hughes currently leads the NE10 with four saves and has struck out nine in six innings pitched.

Southern will face Assumption in Worcester, Mass. on Wednesday, Mar. 29 and then will play Queens in a four-game series on Apr. 1-2. The Owls and Knights are slated for a doubleheader at The Ballpark at SCSU on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 12 p.m.
