MANSFIELD, Mass.- Southern Connecticut women's indoor track & field's Ella Maclean, Izzy Newbury and Rachel Fleischer were named named to the Northeast 10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the NE10 on Apr. 19, 2023.
To be eligible for selection to NE10 Academic All-Conference teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements:
- Started in at least half or played in at least two-thirds of the team's competitions as a significant contributor.
- Achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) or better on a 4.0 scale.
Fleischer is a human performance major with a 3.700 GPA. This is her third Academic All-Conference honor after being named to the 2021 Outdoor Track & Field team and the 2022 Indoor Track & Field team. This season, Fleischer captured the NE10 Indoor Triple Jump Championship and finished third in the Triple Jump at NEICAAA Indoor Championships with a mark of 11.84M, while also finishing seventh in the Long Jump at 5.42m. Previously, Fleischer won the 2021 New England Outdoor Triple Jump Championship and the 2021 Northeast 10 Outdoor Triple Jump Conference Championship and has earned all-region honors in 2021 and 2022.
Maclean is a biology major with a 3.704 GPA. This season, she won Northeast 10 Conference Indoor Championships in the 60 Meters, 200 Meters and 4x400 Relays. She was also part of the 4x400 Relay team that clinched a NCAA Division II qualifying time at the BU Last Chance Qualifier and that finished 12th at the national championships. Maclean also won the NEICAAA Indoor 60 Meter Championships, finished second in the 200 Meters and fourth in the 4x400 Relay. She earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 4x400 Relay, the 60 Meters and the 200 Meters. Prior to this year, she set the SCSU record in the 300 Meters (41.63, 12/4/2021). Last season, she earned 2022 NE10 Indoor Track Rookie of the Year, 2022 NE10 Outdoor Track Rookie of the Year and 2022 Owl Awards Female Rookie of the Year honors after winning the 2022 NE10 Outdoor 100 Meter Championship and was all-region in the 60 Meters, 200 Meters and 4x400 Relay.
Newbury earned Indoor Academic All-Conference for the second-straight year after receiving the award last season. This year, she was part of the 2023 NE10 Indoor 4x400 Championship team as well as a part of 4x400 relay team that qualified for NCAA Division II National Championship, where they finished 12th with a time of 3:49.35. Individually, Newbury finished 8th in the 500 Meters with a time of 1:18.04 at the NEICAAA Indoor Championships and also posted the Owls' top time in the 400 Hurdles at 1:02.60.
