SCSU Track & Field To Send Seven To 2023 NCAA Division II National Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut track & field will send seven student-athletes to the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships will be held on May 25-27 in Pueblo, Colorado at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl. Colorado State University, Pueblo will serve as host of the championships. The championships will be streamed live on www.NCAA.com.

Cameron Belton, Jordan Davis, Ramsley Exantus, Nate Llanos, Sachin Manning and Bernardo Mbaya will represent the men's program, while Rachel Fleischer will compete for the women. Belton and Mbaya will compete in the Shot Put, while Exantus and Manning both qualified for the 400 Meter Hurdles. Llanos will compete in the Pole Vault while 2022 NCAA Division II National Champion Davis will attempt to repeat on last season's success.  

Fleischer will be making her first NCAA Championship appearance of her career. Fleischer is a two-time NE10 Triple Jump Champion, winning this season and in 2021, and was also the 2021 New England Triple Jump Champion.

Davis returns to the national stage to defend his 2022 National Championship in the Javelin after becoming the 81st student-athlete to win an individual title in Southern Connecticut history. Earlier this year, Davis won the NE10 and New England Championships.

Belton will be competing in his fourth NCAA championship of his career. Earlier this year, he earned All-American honors at the Indoor Championships, while he also qualified last season during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Belton is a two-time NE10 Shot Put Champion and the conference record holder in the event.

This will be Exantus' third trip to the national championships after competing in the 4x400 Relay at the 2022 Indoor and Outdoor Championships, as well as the 400 Meter Hurdles during the 2022 outdoor season. Exantus won both the NE10 and New England 400 Meter Hurdle Championships this season, and also teamed with Manning to win the 4x400 Relay Indoor and Outdoor titles. Exantus earned All-American honors for the 4x400 Relay at last season's outdoor championships.

Manning previously competed in the 4x400 Meter Relay at the 2021 and 2022 outdoor Championships and in the 400 Meter Hurdles last season, earning All-American honors in each event.  

Llanos, a two-time NE10 Indoor Pole Vault Champion, and Mbaya, a two-time NE10 Shotput Champion, will be making their first trip to the NCAA Championships.
