SCSU Field Hockey Tops Franklin Pierce, 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut field hockey picked up a Northeast-10 Conference win with a 2-1 victory against Franklin Pierce at Jess Dow Field. The Owls improved to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the NE10 while the Ravens dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Both of the Owls' goals came off of penalty corners with Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchuti scoring just under three minutes into the game off a pass from Kyla Hart-Perron before Meghan Tillona scored at the end of the third period, with Samantha Ponce and Tori Geaglone picking up assists on the play.

Rodriguez Ricchiuti's scored her fourth goal of the season after setting up the corner for the Owls. After Rodriguez Ricchiuti sent the ball to Tori Geaglone at the top of the circle, Geaglone handed it to Kyla Hart-Perron, who maneuvered around a player and fed Rodriguez Ricchiuti on the opposite post. Rodriguez Ricchiuti then spun away from her defender and flicked a shot on goal that beat the Ravens' keeper to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

Franklin Pierce tied the game just under four minutes into the second half off of a corner set. Late in the third quarter, the Owls were awarded a corner with time expired. Rodriguez Ricchiuti sent the ball to Hart-Perron on the top of the circle, who fed Geaglone to her left. Geaglone then centered a pass to Ponce in front of the cage, who tipped it up over the goalie where Tillona batted it out of the air and into the goal.

Southern will play its next two games on the road when it travels to Molloy on Tuesday, Sept. 26 and Saint Michael's on Saturday, Sept. 30. Southern will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 4 to host New Haven at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
