Ponce, Tillona Score Twice As SCSU Field Hockey Blanks Molloy, 5-0

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut field hockey won its second-straight Northeast-10 Conference game with a 5-0 win at Molloy. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the NE10 while the Lions dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.



Meghan Tillona and Samantha Ponce both scored twice for the Owls while while Tillona also had an assist on Ponce's second goal.  Tori Geaglone had a goal and an assist while Mia Oliverio and Ruby Webb also had assists. Tillona now has a team-leading seven goals for the year with one assist for 15 points. Ponce doubled her goal output for the year and stands at four for the season while Geaglone now has five goals and 3 assists for 13 points. Webb and Oliverio both picked up their second assists of the season.

In goal, Rachel Miller had five saves through the first three quarters before Kaitlyn Parent closed out the game with a clean fourth quarter.
Tillona's first goal came after the Webb took control of the ball in the Owls' defensive defensive end and moved the ball to Geaglone at midfield. She sent a pass to the wing to Oliverio, who took it the length of the field and centered a perfect past to the front of the goal that found Tillona's stick for the first goal of the game.

Ponce got on the board to give the Owls a 2-0 lead when Kayla Siemer broke up an attempted clear by Molloy at midfield and sent a pass to Tillona at the top of the circle. Tillona then redirected the pass to Ponce who scored to give Southern the two-goal lead. Geaglone's goal made it 3-0, before her pass to Tillona for the one-timer gave Southern a 4-0 lead. In the 38th minute, Webb connected with Ponce as the Owls picked up the 5-0 win.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 30 when it travels to Colchester, Vt. to take on Saint Michael's in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup set for 2:30 p.m.
