Tim Shea To Be Inducted To Southern Connecticut Diamond Club Hall Of Fame

Southern Connecticut State University baseball head coach, and former standout student-athlete, Tim Shea '87 will be honored as part of the Southern Connecticut Diamond Club Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The Southern Connecticut Diamond Club, Inc., will hold its 16th Annual Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at The Woodwinds in Branford. Affiliated with Southern Connecticut State University as a student-athlete, instructor and coach for more than five decades, Tim Shea's long-standing relationship with the university has been a tremendously successful one. Shea recently completed his 23rd season as the Owls head coach in 2024 and hosts a career record of 567-388-8. On May 1, 2019, Shea became the winningest coach in program history when he captured his 467th victory in a win against Saint Rose at home. 

She took over as head baseball coach prior to the 2002 season after serving 11 years as an assistant to Joe Bandiera. During Shea's tenure, he has built the Owls into an annual contender for the Northeast-10 Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. In fact, Shea has piloted Southern Connecticut to seven NCAA Tournament appearances (2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2017, 2022) and two NCAA World Series berths (2005, 2011).
 
Shea is also a three-time Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year (2005, 2008 and 2010) and a three-time Northeast Regional Coach of the Year (2005, 2008 and 2010). In 2005 he was honored with the NEIBA Division II Coach of the Year award and was also the 2012 Jack Butterfield Award winner by the NEIBA. Shea's Owls have posted nine 30-win seasons and 17 seasons have featured 20-or-more wins.

On the individual front, Shea has coached 120-plus All-Conference performers, more than 35 All-Region players and seven All-Americans.

Dating back to his days as an assistant coach, Shea has been a part of eight squads that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. He previously taught in the university's special education department, earned bachelor's and master's degrees in special education from Southern.

A two-year captain for the Owls, Shea led the nation in doubles per game his senior season of 1987. He was named team MVP in 1985 and Second-Team All-Conference in 1986.

A West Haven native, Shea played football and was an All-State selection in baseball at Notre Dame of West Haven High School. A former assistant coach in both sports at Notre Dame, Shea taught for 14 years in the Milford school system.
 
Shea also has additional coaching experience with the Connecticut Owls AAU program. His teams won back-to-back AAU National Championships in 2006 and 2007.

He resides in Myrtle Beach, S.C. with his wife, Vicky. He has three adult children:  T.J., Tyler, and daughter, Briana and two granddaughters, Lucy and Lola. In 2010, Shea became the first Southern Connecticut head coach to coach his child when T.J. played for the Owls for four seasons from 2010 through 2014.
