SCSU Softball Falls In Season Opening Doubleheader Against St. Thomas and Caldwell University

SCSU softball had their season opener double header in Leesburg, FL today, falling to St. Thomas Aquinas College in the first game, 3-2. Followed by a 7-3 loss to Caldwell University in the second game. The Owls do start the season at 0-2 however have plenty of games left to play in the sunshine state.

In game one, it would be Jess Perucki taking the rubber for the Owls, who would put up five strikeouts, and would only let up one earned run.

Offensively the Owls would score first in the matchup with a Jordan Chamberlain single that would score Karley Austin in the sixth. Katrina Roy would also get an RBI single of her own in the eighth, putting the Owls at two runs. However, a two run RBI single in the eighth would help give St. Thomas the 3-2 win in game one.

In the Owls second matchup of the day, they would take on Caldwell University in which it would be Ashley Lewis making her season debut on the rubber.

It would once again be the Owls getting on the board first with a Dominique DeLutri RBI single followed by a Gabriella Festa two RBI double to put the Owls up 3-0. Runs however, would slow up for the Owls and Caldwell would put together multiple scoring efforts, ultimately giving them the 7-3 win.

The Owls will be back in action on Monday, March 11th, for a double header against Salem University and University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in Leesburg, FL. The Owls first matchup against Salem will take place at 10:00am followed by their second game against University of Pittsburgh at 12:30 PM.
