SCSU Softball Falls To Molloy University In Doubleheader

SCSU Softball drops a doubleheader to Molloy University, wrapping up their trip to Florida. Game one resulted in 1-0 defeat with the Owls coming up short 4-3 in game two. This doubleheader brings the Owls overall record to 2-8 on the season.

In game one the Owls would have Jessica Perucki on the rubber who would pitch a tremendous game only giving up one earned run, a lone solo home run in the fourth inning. Perucki would give up just six hits in 24 at bats with six innings pitched.

Offensively the Owls struggled, unable to get on the board with Molloy pitcher Sophia Mariottini clocking nine strikeouts in game one. Molloy would finish with the 1-0 victory in game one.

In game two of the doubleheader the Owls would have Ashley Lewis on the rubber with the offense finding more success, grabbing a 3-0 lead early in the game. Scoring would start in the first inning with a Karley Austin single that would score Emily Lange on the throw. Rachel Miller would then come to the plate and ground out to first while still picking up an RBI for getting Karley Austin across the plate.

Dominque DeLutri would add on to the Owls lead in the second with a solo home run to right center, giving the Owls that 3-0 lead. Molloy however would climb back into it. They would answer DeLutri's home run with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Then later on in the fifth and six innings they would piece together three more runs, eventually giving them the 4-3 win in game two.

The Owls will return home to New Haven, CT for their next match up on Wednesday, March 20th at 2:30 PM against Mercy University for their home opener at Pelz Field.
