SCSU Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Bloomfield

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut softball swept a non-conference doubleheader against Bloomfield, 4-0 and 1-0, at Pelz Field. With the sweep, the Owls improved to 6-8 while Bloomfield dropped to 7-14.

The Owls pitching dominated as Jessica Perucki spun a two-hit shutout in game one before Madison Prior held Bloomfield to one hit in a complete game. In the first game, Perucki sat-down the last eight batters she faced on her way to fourth win of the season as she improved to 4-2 on the year. She also lowered her NE10-leading ERA to 0.44 with just two earned runs allowed in 41 1/3 innings pitched.
At the plate, Emily Lange was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a run scored while Rachel Miller was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Nicole Spinelli and Gabriella Festa were both 2-for-3 with a run scored while Karley Austin and Dominique DeLutri both drove in a run.

Prior improved to 1-2 on the year after her one-hitter against Bloomfield. Prior gave up a hit in the first inning and then held Bloomfield hitless over the next six innings. At the plate, Bloomfield's Danielle Walters was equally impressive as she held the Owls to a single run on four hits over six innings.

Lange had her second double of the day as part of a four-hit twinbill while Spinelli, Jordan Chamberlain and Lorelei Stancavage also had hits. Stancavage's hit to lead off the fifth led to the Owls only run of the game. After getting on base, Stancavage moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by DeLutri and then scored on Lange's RBI double.

Southern is back in action this weekend with a pair of NE10 doubleheaders beginning with a  12 p.m. set against Saint Rose before wrapping up the week at Pelz Field against AIC on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 12 p.m.
