SCSU Softball Falls To SNHU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut softball lost both ends of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Southern New Hampshire, 8-7 and 11-3. Southern Connecticut dropped to 11-15 overall and 5-7 in the NE10 while SNHU improved to 16-12 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

In the first game, Jessica Perucki pitched well enough to get the job done, but a pair of errors in the third inning allowed seven unearned runs to cross. Perucki was charged with just one earned run on the day after scattering seven hits over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Emily Lange was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Rachel Miller and Dominique DeLutri had back-to-back two-run doubles in the first inning to give the Owls a 4-0 lead. Jordan Chamberlain also drove in a run while Nicole Spinelli was 2-for-3 for the day.

The second game was tied heading into the top of the sixth inning when the Penmen pushed eight runs across to force the mercy rule. Six of SNHU's eight runs in the inning were unearned. At the plate, Nadia Cestari was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored while Karley Austin also drove in a run. Miller was 1-for-3 while Faith Barbieri was 1-for-3 with a runs scored and Samantha LaFemina also had a 1-for-2 day.

On the mound, Ashley Lewis was charged with nine runs allowed, with only four being earned while Madison Prior gave up two unearned runs over one inning pitched.
Southern will look to bounce back on Sunday, Apr. 14 when it hosts Saint Anselm for a NE10 doubleheader at 12 p.m. at Pelz Field in New Haven, Conn.
