SCSU Softball Rebounds To Win Second Game In Twin Bill Split Against Pace

Southern Connecticut softball split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Pace, losing the first game, 3-1 in 10 innings, before rebounding with a 9-1 victory in the second game. The Owls win, which ended an eight-game winning streak for the Setters, put Southern at 13-21 overall and 6-12 in the NE10 while Pace moved to 28-11 overall and 13-5 in conference play.

Jessice Perucki hurled nine shutout innings before Pace broke through with three runs in the top of the 10th inning. The Owls' hurler scattered four hits over the first nine innings while striking out four in the stretch before the 10th.

At the plate, Perucki was also 2-for-3 with a walk while Nadia Cestari also collected two hits in the first inning. Samantha LaFemina also drove in Rachel Miller with the Owls only run of the game.
The Owls' offense exploded behind a dazzling performance by Ashley Lewis on the mound. In the second game Southern tagged Pace for nine runs that ended with a Mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth.  Lewis held the Setters to one run on four hits while striking out six over six innings.

Perucki was 2-for-3 with a home run and a two-run single as part of a three RBI nightcap while Rachel Miller also homered as part of a 2-for-3 day that saw the Owls' right fielder drive in three runs. Emily Lange was 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Gabriella Festa was 2-for-3 with two RBI, including a two-run double that scored Lange and Karley Austin to give the Owls the win.

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 23 when it hosts Felician for a non-conference matchup at 2:30 p.m. at Pelz Field.
