SCSU Softball Sweeps Felician, 5-1 and 7-4

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut softball swept a non-conference doubleheader against Felician, 5-1 and 7-4, at Pelz Field in New Haven, Conn. With the two wins, Southern improved to 15-21 overall while Felician dropped to 18-27.

In the first game, Jessica Perucki spun another incredible performance with a two-hit, 11-strikeout showing against the Golden Falcons. Felician managed one run in the first inning, which stood as unearned to Perucki who dropped her ERA to 0.72 for the season and has allowed just four earned runs over the last 38 2/3 innings.

At the plate, Emily Lange was 1-for-2 with two walks as well as a RBI and run scored. Karley Austin and Dominique DeLutri both drove in runs for the Owls while Rachel Miller, Nadia Cestari, Nicole Spinelli and Ashley Lewis all scored for Southern.

In the second game, a wild opening to the game saw a back-and-forth battle before Southern took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the second. After Felician scored in the top of the first, Miller drove in Lange with the game-tying run before Spinelli drove in DeLutri and Gabriella Festa to give Southern a 3-1 lead. A pair of Owls' errors in the top of the second gave Felician two game-tying runs.
Southern pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the second to take a three-run lead, 6-3, highlighted by a two-run double by DeLutri. The Owls first baseman was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in the second game, while Miller and Spinelli also both finished with two RBI.

Ashley Lewis turned in another great outing on the mound as she gave up one earned run on five hits over seven innings while striking out seven. In her last four games, Lewis is 3-1, with three-straight wins, with three earned runs allowed over 36 innings pitched for a 0.58 ERA over that stretch.
