SCSU Softball Dealt Pair Of Losses At Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – Southern Connecticut softball lost both ends of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Franklin Pierce, 3-0 and 9-3, in Rindge, N.H. With the two losses, Southern dropped to 15-23 overall and 6-14 in NE10 play while Franklin Pierce improved to 25-13 overall and 12-8 in the conference.

In the first game, the Owls were held to just five hits for the game with Emily Lange, Karley Austin, Jessica Perucki, Gabriella Festa and Rachel Miller all collected hits. Perucki logged five scoreless innings before the Ravens broke through with a three-run 6th inning to break a 0-0 tie.

In the second game, FPU scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, both unearned, to take an early 2-0 lead. In the top of the 3rd, Lange reached with a one-out single before moving to second on a base hit by Austin. Perucki then drove in Lange with a double to make it 2-1. Franklin Pierce responded with a five-run bottom half of the inning, including three unearned runs, to take a 7-1 lead.

In the top of the 4th, Dominique DeLutri led off with a single before going to second on a hit by Nadia Cestari. After the next two batters were retired, Lange drove in both runners with a double to cut the Ravens' lead to 7-3. Franklin Pierce scored two more unearned runs in the bottom of the 5th to seal the win.

On the mound, Ashley Lewis scattered seven hits over six innings of work while just two of the Ravens' nine runs were earned. Lewis has given up just five earned runs over her last 32 innings of work, over five starts, for a 1.09 ERA over that span. As a team, the Owls have allowed more than two earned runs in a game just once in its last 10 games. Southern has also allowed the second-fewest earned runs in the conference and have the third-best staff ERA (2.15) behind Pace and Adelphi.

Southern will play its final regular-season games on Saturday, Apr. 27 at St. Michael's.
