SCSU Men's Track & Field Wins 20th NE10 Outdoor Championship All-Time

Southern Connecticut men's track and field won its eighth consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Championship and 20^th all-time as the Owls' amassed 286.5 points. The Owls captured 28 individual and relay medals over the two-day championships including nine Gold, 11 Silver and eight Bronze medals. The Owls 286.5 points are the second-most in NE10 history, trailing the Owls' score of 301.5 in 2021.

For the weekend, Cameron Belton (Discus, Shot Put), Osaretin Osagie (110 Hurdles, 4x100) and Ramsley Exantus (400 Hurdles, 4x100 Relay) all won two Gold Medals each while Osagie, Bernardo Mbaya and Nolan Freeman all won three medals each. Osagie captured the two Golds previously noted and also won a Bronze (400 Hurdles) while Mbaya won Gold in the Hammer Throw and Silver in the Discus and Shot Put. Freeman captured a Gold as part of the 4x100 relay and also won two Silvers (100 Meters, 200 Meters).

With the women's program also winning the 2024 NE10 outdoor title, Southern Connecticut becomes the first program in NE10 history to sweep the men's and women's cross country and indoor and outdoor track championships in one academic year. The Owls' indoor and outdoor track & field titles for both genders make it the fourth time in NE10 history that one school won both titles in the same year, as Southern accomplished the feat the other three times.

Decathlon
Overall
Anthony Gaeta claimed the Silver Medal in the Decathlon after totaling 5,567 points – just three points over the Championship spot.

Decathlon 110 Meter Hurdles
Gaeta finished third in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 16.39.

Decathlon Discus Throw
Gaeta took first place in the Discus Throw with a mark of 39.69m.

Decathlon Pole Vault
Gaeta followed with a win in the Pole Vault with a mark of 3.20m, beating the second-place finisher (2.70m) by almost two feet.

Decathlon Javelin Throw
Gaeta was fourth in the Javelin with a mark of 37.53m.

Decathlon 1500 Meters
Gaeta finished fourth overall in the 1500 Meters with a time of 5:13.18.

Field Events
Shot Put
Cameron Belton won his fourth-straight NE10 Outdoor Shot Put Championship, and sixth all-time including indoor competition, with a PR and NCAA Division II provisional mark of 17.94m. Bernado Mbaya also hit the provisional mark with a shot of 17.86m for Silver while Natanael Barbosa Torres finished third for the Bronze with a mark of 16.61m. Jared Eaton finished fourth at 15.49m.

Discus Throw
Belton and Mbaya kept it going in the Discus Throw, finishing first and second, as Belton captured his first NE10 Discus Throw Championship with a personal-best mark of 48.55m. Mbaya was second with a season-best 47.95m while Eaton finished third for the Bronze with a PR of 44.67m.

Track Events
4x100 Relay
The Owls' 4x100 Relay team of Rocco Samoke, Noah Conrod, Sam Sandler and Nolan Freeman finished fifth with a time of 42.12.

3000 Steeple
Sean Barkasy hit a PR in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 9:17.44 to finish second for the Silver Medal. Matt Speight also had a PR of 9:36.54 for Bronze.

110 Meter Hurdles
Osaretin Osagie won his first NE10 Outdoor Championship with a PR and provisional time of 14.03 in the 110 Meter Hurdles.

100 Meters
Nolan Freeman captured Silver in the 100 Meters with a PR of 10.55. Noah Conrod also finished fourth with a time of 10.82, also a PR.

800 Meters
A day after winning his first medal in the 1500 Meters, freshman standout Jeremy Rivera won the NE10 800 Meter Championship with a personal-best time of 1:52.06. Jack Mulcunry was second for Silver with a time of 1:53.13 while Marquis Whyte finished third with a time of 1:54.80. Noble Parker also scored for the Owls with a sixth-place finish at 1:56.54.

400 Meter Hurdles
Ramsley Exantus won his second-straight NE10 Outdoor 400 Meter Hurdles Championship with a PR and NCAA provisional time of 51.52. Exantus competed last season at the NCAA Championships in the event. Hunter Dale finished second for Silver with a season-best time of 53.77 while Osagie took third place with a time of 54.44 for the Bronze Medal. Shane Smith also scored for the Owls with a fifth-place finish at 55.28.

200 Meters
Nolan Freeman won his second Silver Medal of the day with a second-place finish in the 200 Meters with a time of 21.32.

5000 Meters
William Lamburn took home the Bronze in the 5000 Meters with a time of 15:14.99. Bryan Ryder also scored for the Owls with a fourth-place finish at 15:16.68.

4x400 Relay
Southern capped off the weekend with the NE10 4x400 Meter Championship as Nolan Freeman, Hunter Dale, Osaretin Osagie and Ramsley Exantus finished first with a time of 3:17.29.
