SCSU Women's Track & Field Wins 2024 NE10 Outdoor Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's outdoor track & field won the 2024 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, their first since 2015 and sixth NE10 title overall. The Owls finished with a total of 240 points over the two days of competition.
 
Southern Connecticut won a total of 18 overall medals, five gold medals, 10 silver medals and three bronze medals. In addition, Southern Connecticut men's outdoor track & field won the 2024 NE10 title, making Southern Connecticut the first program in NE10 history to sweep the men's and women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track championships in one academic year. The Owls' indoor and outdoor track & field titles for both genders make it the fourth time in NE10 history that one school won both titles in the same year, as Southern accomplished the feat the other three times.
 
Heptathlon Results
Isabella Sorrentino won the Heptathlon Championship with with a total of 4123 points while Gillian Penna captured Silver with a second-place finish after totaling 4120 points.
 
Long Jump
Isabella Sorrentino finished in first place with a mark of 5.01 meters, Gillian Penna came in second place with a mark of 5.00 meters and Yasielli Perez came in third place with 4.61 meters.
 
800 Meters
Gillian Penna finished in first place with a time of 2:32.00 and Isabella Sorrentino came in third with a time of 2:37.29.

Field Events
Triple Jump
Rachel Fleischer came in second place with a mark of 11.87 meters while Shayna Smith finished in third place with a season-best mark of 11.73 meters.
 
Shot Put
Belle Smith came in third place with a season-best mark of 11.68 meters.
 
Discus Throw
Belle Smith finished in second place in the discus throw with a mark of 36.48 meters.
 
Track Events
4x100 Relay
The relay team of Megan Swan, Hannah Caiola, Kisha Francois and Ella Maclean won the 4x100 Championship in NE10 record-breaking fashion with a time of 46.27.
 
100 Meter Hurdles
Patrice Mansfield recorded a second-place finish for Silver with a PR time of 14.21.
 
400 Meters
Hannah Caiola won the 400 Meters Championship with a time of 53.79 while Avery Winters recorded a PR time of 56.91 for third place and the Bronze Medal.
 
100 Meters
Ella Maclean recorded a PR time and the 27th best time in all of NCAA Division II of 11.71 in winning the 100 Meters Championship for the second time in her career (2022). Kisha Francois recorded a PR time of 12.00 and came in third place in the finals. Francois previously won Silver in 2023.
 
400 Meter Hurdles
Izzy Newbury took second place and the Silver Medal with a season-best time of 1:04.94 in the 400 meter hurdles for the third-straight season. Patrice Mansfield finished in fourth place with a time of 1:07.30.
 
200 Meters
It was Ella Maclean again, this time winning her second-straight Outdoor 200 Meter Championship with a PR time of 24.24. Maclean also won the Indoor 200 Meter this season. Hannah Caiola came in second place in a time of 24.61. Avery Winters recorded a fourth-place finish and a time of 25.28.
 
5000 Meters
Courtney Henchcliffe posted a second-place finish with a season-best time of 18:00.24. Emilie Noreika came in fifth place with a time of 18.37.99.
 
4x400 Relay
The relay team of Brianna Cole, Avery Winters, Megan Swan and Dardielle Exantus came in second place with a time of 3:58.80.
 
Other Results
  • In the high jump, Gillian Penna came in seventh place with a mark of 1.50 meters.
  • In the discus throw, Sydney Dolbier recorded a seventh place with a mark of 32.12 meters and Serena Devine threw for 31.05 meters in 10th place.
  • In the 800 meters, Leticia DoNascimento came in sixth place with a time of 2:23.78 and Julia Mansfield came in seventh place with a time of 2:27.16.
  • In the 5000 meters, PJ Dauphinais posted a seventh place in a season-best time of 18:47.22. Megan Whitnell recorded a PR time of 19:19.76 in 12th place.
