Jordan Davis Advances To U.S. Olympic Trials Finals With Second-Place Finish In Qualifying Round

Southern Connecticut javelin stand-out Jordan Davis made an immediate impression at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Javelin Throw Trials, needing just one throw to qualify for the event finals on Sunday, June 23.

Davis was the fifth athlete to throw and hit a leading mark of 77.14m. Curtis Thompson finished the qualifying round with a mark of 79.64m for first while Davis was second.

Davis is one of 12 athletes from the initial field of 24 to move on to the final day, which starts at 9:40 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 23 on NBC/Peacock.

Should Davis qualify for the Olympics in Paris, he would be the fifth Southern Connecticut student-athlete to do so, joining gymnast Peter Kormann, men's soccer's Brian Bliss, women's basketball's Susan Rojcewicz and Mary Anne O'Connor and women's soccer Beba Stratakis. Additionally, former men's gymnastic head coach Abie Grossfeld also coached three U.S. Olympic teams.

Earlier this season, Davis broke the NCAA all-division record with a throw of 83.77m at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays before setting the new record at the NCAA Championships. Along the way, he won his fourth-straight NE10 and NEICAAA New England Championships and finished fourth with a throw of 75.32m (247'1") at the prestigious Drake Relays which featured some of the top javelin talent in the world.

Davis' incredible season – one in which could be argued as the greatest in SCSU Athletics history – was highlighted most recently with his announcement as a Semifinalist for the prestigious Bowerman Award, making him the first NCAA Division II student-athlete eligible in the award's history since 2009. Davis was also named USTFCCCA National Field Athlete of the Year, USTFCCCA East Region Field Athlete of the Year, Northeast-10 Conference Field Athlete of the Year while capturing his second NCAA Division II Javelin Throw National Championship in three seasons as well as a fourth-straight All-American honor.
