SCSU Cross Country Takes Home Three Northeast-10 Weekly Awards

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University Men's and Women's Cross Country took home three of four Northeast-10 Conference weekly awards for week one of the 2024 season.

Courtney Henchcliffe was awarded Runner of the Week. To begin the Owls' NE10 and NCAA East Region Championship defense, Henchcliffe finished in a tie for 15th out of 86 runners at the Shawn Nassaney Cross Country Invitational hosted by Bryant University. The sophomore from Newtown, Connecticut posted a time of 19:30.6, tied with her teammate Briana Grecco. The pair led Southern to a sixth-place finish.

The Owls also won both Rookie of the Week awards, with John Glidden and Erin Sola the respective recipients.

In her Owls debut, Sola finished 48th at the Nassaney Invitational. The freshman from Meriden, Connecticut posted a time of 20:52.2.

In his first race as an Owl, Glidden led the men's team with a 10th place finish out of 87 runners at the Nassaney Invitational at Bryant University. Glidden, a freshman from Vernon, Connecticut, crossed the finish line with a time of 16:03.7, helping the defending champions to a seventh-place finish.

The Owls return on September 21st, when they travel to Dartmouth, Mass. for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
