SCSU Women's Soccer Opens Season With 2-0 Win At Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer opened the 2024 season with a 2-0 win at Queens on Friday afternoon. The win in the second game of the Queens College Conference Challenge gave the Owls a 1-0 overall record to kick off the season while Queens dropped to 0-1.

Shi Reeves and Sydney Myers both scored for the Owls, with both goals coming in the second half. Reeves' goal was the first of her career while Myers, who transferred to SCSU from former NE10 foe Saint Rose after the latter ceased operation, scored her first as and Owl and the ninth of her career. Nicky Deslauriers, Alexie Rosado and Isabella LaPerle both picked up points on assists, with Rosado's counting for the eighth of her career. Kaelen Fabry, who transferred from NCAA Division I Quinnipiac, made five saves in goal for her first career shutout and win as an Owl. 



Early in the second half, Victoria Vera won a ball just below midfield and handed the ball to Alexie Rosado. Rosado took off down the flank and led a pass to Nicky Deslauriers who one-touched a centering pass to Reeves who blasted a shot past Queens' keeper to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

With just under 15 minutes to play, Tuva Thulin took a throw in for the Owls deep in the Southern defensive zone. After the ball was played back to her, she sent a pass to the top of the Queens box to Isabella LaPerle. LaPerle led Myers who slipped between two defenders and then toed a shot past the Knights' goalkeeper to give Southern a 2-0 lead.

Southern is back in action for the second day of the Queens College Conference Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 8 against Bridgeport in Flushing, N.Y. at 12 p.m.
