SCSU Softball Drops Final Two Games In Florida

VIERA, Fla. - Southern Connecticut State University softball lost both games on its final day of its trip to Veira, Fla. at the Space Coast Spring Games. The Owls lost to Post, 2-0, and Florida Tech, 3-0, and drop to 9-5 on the season.

Game 1 vs. Post
Despite the loss, Kate Nickerson got her first start for the Owls where she had six strikeouts and allowed two runs. Nickerson retired the first 10 batters she faced before Post broke through in the fourth inning, and manufactured a run. Nickerson looked to be cruising after that before giving up back-to-back two-out singles in the sixth that resulted in another Eages' run. Offensively, Izzy Ingersoll had the lone hit for the team.

Game 2 vs. Florida Tech
Rachel Miller and Nicole Spinelli were 2-for-3 at the plate while Karley Austin and Olivia Young added hits. Owls starter Ashley Lewis gave up two runs - only one earned - on three hits over five innings before Giselle DeLutri pitched the final two innings. She gave up one, unearned run on one hit while striking out three.

The Panthers scored in the first, fourth and sixth innings. Trailing 1-0, Southern Connecticut threatened in the 3rd when Spinelli, Miller and Young all strung together consecutive two-out singles, but they could not push a run across.

Southern is back in action on Wednesday, March 26 when it travels to Caldwell before hosting Molloy on Saturday, March 29 at Pelz Field.
