CALDWELL, N.J. - The Southern Connecticut softball team got swept by Caldwell in a non-conference doubleheader. The team lost each game on a walk off losing 2-1 in Game 1 and 3-2 in Game 2. The Owls are now 9-7 overall while Caldwell improves to 12-13.
In Game 1,
Karley Austin,
Nicole Spinelli, and
Cassidy Sullivan were the only Owls with hits.
Ashley Lewis allowed seven hits, two runs, and struck out three in the loss. The Owls scored first in the 4th when Austin doubled and was then brought home by a single from Spinelli. Caldwell equalized in the bottom of the 4th and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th.
In Game 2,
Izzy Ingersoll was 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Rachel Miller was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
Olivia Young and
Marissa Correra each had a hit as well. In the circle,
Giselle DeLutri struck out six.
The Cougars got on the board first after scoring two in the bottom of the 2nd. The Owls then equalized in the 5th after stringing some hits together. Correra got on base with a bunt single and Ingersoll followed with a single to left field. After the next batter was retired, Spinelli reach on an error and then Miller hit a ground-rule double to right field to bring in two runs. Like the first game, Caldwell won it in the bottom of the 7th.
The Owls will host Molloy on Saturday, Mar. 29 before traveling to Springfield, Mass. on Sunday, Mar. 30 to face American International for the first conference games of the season.
