SCSU Men’s Track & Field Records Multiple Top-5 Finishes at Day 1 of the UConn Northeast Challenge

STORRS, Conn. - Southern Connecticut Men's Outdoor Track & Field saw two competitors record top-five finishes at UConn's Northeast Challenge, competing in a field of Division I, II, and III teams.

Nevan Burke was the top finisher overall for the Owls, placing third in the Javelin Throw with a throw of 60.97m (200-00). That is his best throw of the season so far, and extends his lead as the top throw in the NE10.

In the Pole Vault, Mateo Viviano placed fourth, clearing 4.40m (14-05.25). That is the top jump in the conference.

In the Long Jump, Lawrence Hicks finished seventh, jumping 6.99m (22-11.25). Holden Speed followed in 14th with a mark of 6.58m (21-07.25).

Cameron Belton placed 11th in the Discus Throw with a season-best mark of 47.34m (155-03). That is now the top throw in the NE10. Natanael Barbosa Torres finished in 22nd with a season-best throw of 40.46m (132-09), seventh in the conference.

The Owls compete at two meets tomorrow, finishing up Day 2 of the Northeast Challenge and competing at Yale's Mark Young Invitational.
