NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut softball team dropped two games to conference opponent Adelphi losing the first game, 2-0 and the second 1-0 in nine innings. The Owls drop to 13-14 overall and 2-7 in the Northeast-10 while the Panthers improve to 18-22 and 7-7 in the conference.
Izzy Ingersoll was 2-for-6 with a double while catcher
Karley Austin was 2-for-7 a threw out a runner. Both players were the only two Owls with hits in both games of the doubleheader.
Dominique DeLutri and
Olivia Young added hits as well.
In the circle,
Ashley Lewis took the loss in Game 1, pitching five innings and allowing two runs.
Kate Nickerson came in in relief, pitching three innings and only allowed two hits while striking out two.
Giselle DeLutri took the loss in Game 2 throwing all nine innings while allowing one run, six hits, and struck out six.
Adelphi scored at the top of the 1st inning, giving them a lead from the beginning of the game before adding another run in the 4th. The Owls were the closest to scoring in the bottom of the 1st with runners on second and third, and had a runner in scoring position in the 4th, but could not push a run across.
Game 2 was a pitchers' dual with the lone run of the game coming in the 9th inning. Similar to the first game, the Owls only had four runners in scoring position through the nine innings but could not get past the Panthers pitcher.
The team will travel to Pace tomorrow, Apr. 19 for another conference doubleheader.
