PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut softball team lost two games to Pace on Saturday, Apr. 19. The team lost the first game 3-1, and the second game 2-1 in eight innings. The Owls are now 13-16 overall and 2-9 in the Northeast-10 while the Setters of Pace are 32-8 overall and 16-0 in the conference.
In Game 1,
Karley Austin and
Dominique DeLutri were the only two Owls to get a hit off of the 2024 Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year, Giselle Garcia, while
Olivia Young reached base with a walk.
Kate Nickerson took the loss in the circle after pitching all six innings while allowing six hits and three runs scored with two strikeouts.
The Setters scored the first run of the game in the 1st before adding two more in the 5th. With two outs in the 6th, Austin came up and hit a solo home run, the first of her career, but the Owls could not generate anymore offense.
In Game 2,
Izzy Ingersoll was 3-for-4 with a double while
Rachel Miller,
Nadia Cestari, and
Samantha LaFemina added hits. Miller also had a stolen base.
Ashley Lewis took the no decision going seven innings and allowing five hits, one unearned run, and struck out three.
Giselle DeLutri came in in the 8th and took the loss allowing two hits and a run.
Pace scored in the 2nd inning before Southern scored in the 5th to equalize. LaFemina was the lone run of game scoring on a wild pitch after she singled to reach base.
The Owls had the opportunity to score in the bottom of the 8th after Ingersoll and Miller hit back-to-back singles and then advanced on a wild pitch, but with two outs they could not push across a run. The Setters then walked it off in the bottom of the 8th.
The Owls will play Bentley in a doubleheader at home on Monday, Apr. 21.
