SCSU Softball Drops Games to SNHU & Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern Connecticut Softball team dropped games to Southern New Hampshire and Saint Anselm. They lost games to the Penmen, 6-4 and 3-1 while losing the game to the Hawks, 5-4. The team is now 13-21 overall and 2-14 in the Northeast-10. Southern New Hampshire is now 24-12 overall and 11-5 in the conference while Saint Anselm is 22-11 overall and 11-5 in the conference. 


GAME 1: SCSU 4, SNHU 6 
Nadia Cestari was 2-for-3 with two home runs, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Dominique DeLutri was 2-for-3 with a run scored and stolen base while Izzy Ingersoll was 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Sophia Angiolini was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Giselle DeLutri took the loss in the circle. 

The Owls took the lead in the top of the 2nd after DeLutri led off with a single to center before stealing second. Olivia Young then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move DeLutri to third before Angiolini hit a single to right field to score the first run of the game.  

Southern New Hampshire equalized in the bottom of the 3rd before Southern Connecticut added two more in the top of the 5th. Nadia Cestari led off with a solo home run – her first of the season – to start off the inning. Marissa Correra then walked and eventually scored due to errors from the Penmen. In the bottom of the 5th, Southern New Hampshire tied the game before taking the lead in the bottom of the 6th  after capitalizing on errors from the Owls 

Cestari blasted another home run in the top of the 7th to give the Owls some hope, but the Penmen eventually retired the side.  

GAME 2: SCSU 1, SNHU 3
Karley Austin, Izzy Ingersoll, Rachel Miller, Olivia Young, Samantha LaFemina, and Marissa Correra all recorded a hit in Game 2. In the circle, Kate Nickerson took the loss allowing seven hits and two earned runs. 

Southern Connecticut scored first in the top of the 3rd after Karley Austin doubled to centerfield and then advanced to third on an RBI ground out from Izzy Ingersoll. Rachel Miller then smacked a single to center field to score Austin.

In the bottom of the 3rd, the Penmen scored two runs to take the lead and then added another run in the bottom of the 5th to lead 3-1 which would eventually come to be the final score.  

Southern Connecticut vs Saint Anselm Game 2: SCSU 4 STA 5 
This game started today in the 4th inning as it was a continuation from Apr. 15 when the game was halted in due to weather. Over the two days, Izzy Ingersoll was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Cassidy Sullivan and Olivia Young recorded the other two hits for the Owls with Young's being a home run – her fifth of the season. Giselle DeLutri took the no decision after pitching three innings while allowing one hit, three runs, and striking out five. Young got the loss after pitching three and a third innings while allowing three hits and two runs. 

Back on Apr. 15, in the top of the 2nd inning, Southern Connecticut got in scoring position early with a single into center field by Sullivan. With two outs, Karley Austin reached on an error that allowed Sullivan to score. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Hawks put up three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

Today, the Owls went up 4-3 in the 5th inning when Olivia Young hit a three-run home run to bring in Rachel Miller and Izzy Ingersoll along with herself.  

Young also got the start in the circle instead of Giselle DeLutri who originally started the game. She was scoreless through the first two innings until the Hawks tied it up in the 6th inning before walking it off in the 7th.  


The Owls will host Franklin Pierce on Friday, Apr. 15 before hosting Saint Michael's on Saturday, Apr. 26 for Senior Day.
