SCSU Softball Falls To Franklin Pierce

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut softball dropped a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Franklin Pierce, 4-2 and 3-0. With the losses, the Owls dropped to 13-24 overall and 2-17 in the NE10 while Franklin Pierce improved to 20-18 overall and 9-9 in conference play.



GAME 1: Franklin Pierce 4, SCSU 2
Karley Austin was 3-for-3 with a RBI and a stolen base while Izzy Ingersoll also drove in a run. Ashley Lewis took the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits over 1 1/3 before Kate Nickerson held the Ravens scoreless over 1 1/3 while allowing just one hit.

Franklin Pierce broke through with the game's first run in the top of the 2nd inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Sophia Angiolini led off with a walk and then moved to second on Nadia Cestari's one-hit single. After a batter was retired for the second out of the inning, Austin lined a single to center field to score Angiolini and tie the game at 1-1. Ingersoll then worked a lengthy at-bat before lining a single just inside the third base bag to score Cestari and give the Owls the lead.

Lewis pitched a scoreless 3rd and 4th innings before Franklin Pierce tied the game in the 5th after capitalizing on an infield error. The Ravens scored twice in the 6th to cap the scoring on the day.

GAME 2: Franklin Pierce 3, SCSU 0
Rachel Miller was 2-for-3 and had both of the Owls' hits in the game. She had a first-inning single and then reached again in Southern's final at-bat. On the mound, Giselle DeLutri allowed two earned runs on six hits over six innings before Kate Nickerson pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Southern will host Saint Michael's on Sunday, Apr. 27 for a 12 p.m. doubleheader with Senior Day festivities planned for 11:40 a.m.
