SCSU Men's Outdoor Track & Field Sweeps Final Week of NE10 Weekly Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut Men's Outdoor Track & Field standouts Jonathan Volpe, Cameron Belton, and Lawrence Hicks swept the Northeast-10 Weekly Awards for the final week of the regular season. Volpe was named the Track Athlete of the Week, Belton was named the Field Athlete of the Week, and Hicks was named the Rookie of the Week. 

Jonathan Volpe had a highlight performance at Central Connecticut's Blue Devil Invitational this past weekend, winning the 1500m and breaking the SCSU record with a time of 3:45.78. That broke the previous record of 3:47.27 set by Terrell Patterson in 2022. That is a top-40 time in Division II and the top time in the NE10. 

Cameron Belton continued his dominant season at the James Barber/Jack Maloney Invitational, winning yet another Shot Put competition with a season-best throw of 18.08m. That is the top throw in the NE10, and ranks fourth nationally. He still has won the Shot Put at every meet he has competed in this year outside of the NCAA DII Indoor Championships. He also won the Discus Throw with a mark of 46.18m, which ranks third in the conference. It is the fifth time Belton has been named the NE10 Field Athlete of the Week this season. 

Lawrence Hicks also competed at the Barber/Maloney Invitational, where he won the High Jump and placed second in the Long Jump. His mark of 2.00m in the High Jump and 7.25m in the Long Jump both rank second in the NE10 and are in the top-50 in all of Division II. Hicks has now earned the weekly honor five times this season. 

Hicks, Belton, and Volpe will look to help the Owls defend their eight-straight NE10 Outdoor titles this weekend at the 2025 NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
