SCSU Football Falls To Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – Southern Connecticut football lost to Catawba, 63-23, in the first meeting between the schools, all-time, in Salisbury, N.C. With the loss, the Owls dropped to 1-2 on the year while Catawba improved to 4-1.

Divine Edwards had five catches for a career-best 145 yards receiving with a 17-yard touchdown. Seth Westover also found the end zone for the second time this season with a 29-yard touchdown catch. Quarterback Brandon Jorgenson finished the day 17-for-28 for 316 yards and two touchdowns – all career-bests for the first-year starter. Jorgenson also ran for 28 yards on 11 carries. Kieran Falzon also rolled up 83 yards on 15 carries on the ground.



Daniel Benzi converted all three of his field goal attempts including a season-best 35-yard attempt. On defense, Branden Louis had a team-high six tackles including one for a loss. Shane Kanterman and Kyle Scott both had five tackles while Jordan Berrios had four tackles and broke up a pass.

Southern returns home to host Bentley for Homecoming and Parent's Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
