SCSU Women's Lacrosse Tops Franklin Pierce, 15-10, For Sixth-Straight Win

RINDGE, N.H. – Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse defeated Franklin Pierce, 15-10, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in Rindge, N.H. With the win the Owls improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the NE10 while the Ravens dropped to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Owls are currently riding a six-game winning streak.

Macy Vail led the Owls with four goals and two assists for six points while Bailey McDermott scored three times and led the Owls with four draw controls. Madison Olmstead added two goals while Maddox Burton had five assists and Anna Meserve added two more.



Taryn Ugrin got the Owls on the board with 11:37 to play in the 1st quarter off a feed from Meserve before Vail scored her first goal off a pass from Burton to give Southern a 2-0 lead. After Franklin Pierce tied the game with six minutes to go, Olmstead scored twice off of assists from Sofia Boucher and Vail. Franklin Pierce scored again to end the 1st quarter, and then again to open the second to tie the game at 4-4.

The Owls outscored the Ravens, 5-3, in the second quarter before five different goal scorers. Vail and Breya Montague both scored to give Southern a 6-4 lead before the Ravens answered to cut the Owls lead to a goal. The Owls then traded goals – with Boucher converting for Southern – to hold onto a 7-6 lead before Southern scored twice in the final 30 seconds – with Abigail Nolan and McDermott finding the back of the net – to take a 9-6 lead into the break.

Coming out of halftime, it was McDermott again as the Owls lead grew to four goals, 10-6. Franklin Pierce cut Southern's lead to 10-7 but Hannah Hathway scored with a man-up advantage before Rebecca Sibley scored with eight seconds left in the quarter to give Southern a 12-7 lead heading into the final frame.

In the fourth, Franklin Pierce chipped away with back-to-back goals to make it 12-9. The Owls then outscored FPU, 3-1, in the final 10 minutes on a pair of goals by Vail and McDermott's third of the game to hold on for the win.

Southern is back in action when it travels to nationally-ranked Pace on Saturday, Apr. 4.
