Johnson, Volpe Bring Home NE10 Weekly Awards

Southern Connecticut track & field standouts Kayla Johnson and Jonathan Volpe both took home Northeast 10 Weekly Awards for the final week of the regular season. Johnson was named the NE10 Field Athlete of the Week, and Volpe was named Track Athlete of the Week.

Johnson continued her breakout season at Central Connecticut's Blue Devil Invitational, winning the Shot Put with a personal-best throw of 13.38m. She holds the top shot put mark in the NE10 heading into the Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This is her second time being named Field Athlete of the Week this season, and is one of three Owls to win the award this year (Celine Bozukluian x1, Belle Smith x4).

Jonathan Volpe dominated in the 1500m at the same meet, winning the event by almost 10 seconds with a time of 3:49.65. That time ranks second in the conference this season (behind only himself). It is Volpe's fifth time being named Track Athlete of the Week this year, which leads all winners.

Johnson, Volpe, and the Owls will look to defend their titles and make it a cross country, indoor, and outdoor track sweep this weekend at the 2026 Northeast 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by SCSU.
