SCSU Women's Soccer Standouts Elizabeth Bishop, Makenzi Pastreck and Gigi Pena Win Northeast 10 Weekly Awards

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Southern Connecticut State University Women's Soccer won three out of the four Northeast 10 Conference Weekly Awards as announced by the NE10 on Monday Sept 21. Owls standout forward Elizabeth Bishop won player of the week, Makenzi Pastreck won her second goalkeeper of the week in a row and Gigi Pena was named the rookie of the week.
 
After being selected to the all-rookie team last season, Bishop has continued her dominance. In the Owls two match ups against Queens College and Pace University Bishop tallied two goals and one assist. Against Queens on Wednesday Bishop set up teammate Frida Norret as she fired a shot from just outside the 18 yard box and found the back of the net, which gave the Owls a 2-0 lead.
 
At Pace to start off conference play, Bishop scored or assisted on both goals in the match up. Bishop opened the scoring just before the halftime whistle when she found the top right corner of the goal off a pass from Julia Hargraves. Continuing to have her hand in the action, Bishop found teammate Gigi Pena in the 62nd minute for Pena's second goal of the season and first in conference play.
 
Makenzi Pastreck continued shutout the competition in the goal for the Owls. The sophomore helped the Owls blank both Queens and Pace this week. Against Queens, Pastreck was tested once and denied the chance; however, against Pace she saw more shots. In Pleasantville, Pastreck denied five Setters shots on route to a 2-0 Owls win. The Owls are currently one of six teams in the NCAA to not allow a goal this season. Pastreck's 0 goals allowed and five shutouts rank first in the NE10. Her 19 saves sit fourth in the NE10 as she averages 2.71 per game.
 
Gigi Pena had a great week for the Owls scoring her second goal of the season. Against the Queens College Knights on Wednesday, Pena got the start and played 75 minutes. She fired one shot on goal, which was denied by the keeper. Against the Setters on Saturday, Pena found the back of the net in the 62nd minute off a feed from Bishop to give the Owls the insurance they needed for a 2-0 win against the Setters.

Southern Connecticut is back in action on Saturday Sept. 26 when they travel to Rindge, NH to take on Franklin Pierce in a Northeast 10 Conference Match up at noon. The Owls return home on Saturday Oct. 3 when they host Southern New Hampshire University at 4 PM.
