NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Abby Hurlbert (Thomaston, Conn.) of the women's basketball team and senior Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) of the men's basketball team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Hurlbert averaged 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Owls. She opened the week with five points, four rebounds and two steals at American International before posting a career-high 18 points, along with seven rebounds and three assists, in a win over previously undefeated St. Thomas Aquinas.
Mallory, named the SCSU Male Athlete of the Week for the third week in a row, became Southern's all-time leading scorer in a 30-point effort that came in a win over American International. Mallory then followed that showing with a team-high 30 points at Nova Southeastern. In addition to his averages of 30.0 points per game, he also chipped in 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per contest.
