NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior
Angela Cafarelli (Enfield, Conn.) netted her second goal of the year, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was defeated by Kutztown University in a non-league contest on Saturday, 5-1.
The Owls are now 1-2 on the season, while Kutztown moved to 1-0.
After a scoreless opening 28 minutes, Kutztown finally struck first late in the first half on a goal from Alyssa Maltese. The game remained that way heading into the intermission.
However, Kutztown broke the game open with two goals in just under 12 minutes early in the second half.
Cafarelli cut the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted marker that came with 8:15 remaining in the contest.
The Golden Bears then secured the win by scoring the final two goals of the game.
Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) finished with eight saves in the net for SCSU.
The Owls are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Shippensburg University in a non-league contest.
