WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior forward Whitney Martin (Harwinton, Conn.) scored the final two goals of the contest – the game-tying marker with 39 seconds left in regulation and game-winner 4:35 into overtime – to give the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team a 3-2 win over Assumption College on Tuesday in Worcester, Mass.

The win allowed the Owls to improve to 2-5, 1-3 in Northeast-10 play. Assumption is now 2-3, 1-3.

SCSU opened the scoring 18:09 into the game when senior Angela Cafarelli (Enfield, Conn.) connected for her fourth of the year.

The hosts tied the game just over 10 minutes later, and then scored 38 seconds into the second half to take a 2-1 lead.

Assumption was less than a minute away from victory when Martin netted her first of the year of an assist from Kate Gedney (Westbrook, Conn.).

Martin then capped the comeback with an unassisted goal early in the overtime period.

Goalie Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) finished with one save on the night for the Owls.

SCSU returns to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they host UMass-Lowell in a Northeast-10 contest.
